What is a hexagonal slotted nut?

2024-06-30

Slotted nuts mainly refer to hexagonal slotted nuts, that is, grooves are machined above the hexagonal nuts. It is used in conjunction with threaded bolts with holes and split pins to prevent the bolt from rotating relative to the nut. Hexagonal slotted nuts are commonly used in vibration and impact situations.

After tightening the nut, it is necessary to install a split pin hole and install it into the split pin. For example: lifting equipment, artillery, presses, die-casting machines, etc. The function of slotted nuts is to fix the front and rear axles of the vehicle through front and rear axle screws, so that the frame and tires are fixed together. In order to prevent the nuts from loosening, the cotter pin must be fixed through the groove of the slotted nut, and the cotter pin must be fixed through the middle of the axle screw.

For connections with slotted nut heads slightly higher or even at the fixed part plane, a hexagonal nut with an outer diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the slotted nut head can be placed on the hexagonal slotted nut head. Then, the nut and the hexagonal slotted nut head can be spot welded together, and after cooling, the hexagonal bolt can be removed by twisting the nut with a movable hand.
